Ruairi, this issue should be solved in Two Color sIFR Take Two, since

is used instead of

Great work!

I've found a problem though. If the document is served with a UTF-8 encoding, the "shy" entity is converted into a question mark.

You can see this behavior by opening your demo page in and changing the character encoding to UTF-8.

Once again I am witness to the problems of character encodings. Aaargh!
I'm trying to find a solution now, I'll let you know how I'm getting on.

Hi all,

thanks for commenting. Replacing span with em is a great idea. I have couple of other things in mind that would help this 2 color thing become more appealing to broader user base, and which would hopefully move it out of the hack-only zone.
An update will follow soon.

Using span is non-semantic. Using span with class is plain ugly. What about styling some semantically full element such as [em]? It is nice and it fulfills its purpose - afterall, the text is emphasized.

Wouldn't a simple unclassed make the trick with less code?

I've made double styled titles before (not sIFR just ol' plain CSS) for a friends site and a simple has made the trick (here it is: http://www.nolimit-studio.com/lafamosax)
