Also, I never saw the “stumped star” tutorial. It’s similar to my solution, but easier to follow. :)

I’ve experimented a lot with the guy’s placement, but when I set him to a lower position, it looked like he’s falling down and not like he’s taking off.

Regarding the girl, I might try to soften it a little bit more.

The only thing I would do differently is drop the male figure down so that his chest is centered with the starburst. To me it seems to look like a point of impact and I would rather see his chest hitting something than his knees.

The only other thing is that on the female you’ve used a drop shadow while on the male it looks like an outer glow. I prefer the outer glow.

But, don’t get me wrong, I really like what you’ve done here. Your sunbursts look great.
