You could try Principia Gastronomica for some tips on places to go eat or drink. I've came across some pub reviews there I believe.

Cool, if you do come over for @media just let me know.

Might even see you there. My team manager and I are in the process of trying to get our manager to let us go to @media too. Fingers crossed!!

my info is four years old (since my last visit) and my memory is not what it used to be, generaly I am right but individual ticket price is something to check
indian food is quite nice, they have great bread with garlic and a lot of really spicy dishes, they also make cucumber with youghurt salad which is my favourite (and not quite uncommon in our area), but whetever you do - do not eat in british restaurants ;)

Thanks to both, now I’m much more relaxed. In fact I never tried indian food before, so I guess I’ll be a challenge (hopefully not to my stomach).

@mrak: thanks for the ticket suggestion.

@medo: we are planning to visit @media this year. we’ll keep in touch about that.

Shame you are not staying in London for a bit, hell could have given you a free guided tour and had a few beers!!!!

I personally haven't been to Birmingham in a long, long time but one thing is for sure - food wise you will find a lot of indian restaurants (and i mean a lot) as well as chinese, thai and the usual italian/greek restuarants etc.

Bad luck with the visa though. Just hope you did not have too much hassle getting it all sorted as I know from past experiences with some family and friends coming from croatia - it was quite a tedious process.

Anyway, I hope you have a really good time and if you need any more info just ask.

in the center of birmingham there is a street full of indian restaurants (and other restaurants), I recall one high-tech indian restaurant (there is launge bar in front of the restaurant), nicely designed, sofas and everything... anyway, in that restaurants you have glass wall in mans room and behind it there are number of TVs so you can watch tv while releifing yourself :)
funny you mention NEC since I plan to be there in a month from today :)
I ate well in birmingham, you will be happy.
btw. best way to get to birmingham is to go by tube from heathrow to euston station and there you catch a train to birmingham (there is a stop for NEC and stop for downtown birmingham), beware of train ticket prices, intercity ticket can be quite steep while normal ticket is in 15-25 punds range (and there is a10 minute travel time difference)
