Luka is the older brother of Tin.<br \/>\nToday, Tin is 3 days old.<\/p>\n<p>The whole family is super-euphoric. We all know what to do.<\/p>\n<p>We named Tin after <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tin_Ujevi\u0107\">Tin Ujevi\u0107<\/a>, the famous Croatian poet. When I was a high-school graduate, I took classes on Croatian poetry and choose Tin Ujevi\u0107&#8217;s opus as a theme for my final exam. Now you know.<\/p>\n<p>The Christian name of Tin Ujevi\u0107 was Augustin (or Augustine) after <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/St._Augustine_of_Hippo\">St. Augustine<\/a>. And one of St. Augustine&#8217;s influential quotes particularly matches certain modern pedagogy rule:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Cum dilectione hominum et odio vitiorum<br \/>\n(Love the sinner and hate the sin)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Don&#8217;t judge the person, judge the act.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of<br \/>\n<q>\u2013 \u201cYou are bad (correct yourself)\u201d<\/q><br \/>\nwe should communicate<br \/>\n<q>\u2013 \u201cThat behavior was bad (I love you, but please don&#8217;t do that again)\u201d<\/q>.<\/p>\n<p>Move focus from the child itself to her undesired behavior. This way, the kid is not offended, and she has a chance to re-think her acts.<\/p>\n<p>I hope I&#8217;ll remember this next time they cross my boundaries.
